SSJID Solar Farm Repowering: EPRI Case Study
An aging solar farm does not always need a full replacement. EPRI examines how SSJID renewed the Robert O. Schulz Solar Farm through field assessment, equipment reuse, and phased construction.
01. Assess Before Replacing
Failing inverters and aging modules reduced output. Field assessments helped the team decide what to replace, what to retain, and how to sequence the work.
02. Reuse Assets. Phase the Work.
The project reused suitable structures and equipment while replacing legacy technology. NuLife Power Services handled repowering engineering and construction, including execution planning and sequencing. The phased approach limited production losses.
03. More Capacity Within the Same Footprint
EPRI reports a 46% increase in gross DC generating capacity. Expected simple payback is under two years including Inflation Reduction Act incentives, or within three years without them. These are project-specific results, not a forecast for every site.
